The much anticipated and eagerly awaited Triumph Thunderbird, which is the British companies first attempt at joining the mainstream cruiser market has arrived in South Africa. The American magazine Cycle World has already awarded the Thunderbird the Cruiser of the year award and considering that the US is the home of the Harley Davidson, that’s pretty impressive.

Unfortunately, such has been the demand for the Thunderbird that the USA has grabbed all of the production of Thunderbirds for the next three months leaving us South Africans at the bottom of the order list.

Undeterred, Arnold Olivier, brand manager for Triumph in South Africa managed to negotiate with the factory to bring a single Thunderbird into the country for local buyers to see and ride months before the actual sale stock arrives. The bike was prepared and run in by the staff Traditional Triumph in Edenvale at night and in disguise to keep it away from the beady eyes of the media.

The bike was unveiled to Triumph riders at the Fouriesburg RAT (Riders association of Triumph) run on Friday the 4th September. Although there is only one in the country, prospective buyers will be able to see the bike in the flesh as well as take it for a test ride before committing to their purchase.
